"The antitank infantry squads had to set up the ambush positions in a hurry because some enemy tank squads could appear in any time on the road in front of them. The earth was quaking as the heavy tanks were approaching. As they reached the most favorable position the ambushing squads fired all their Dragon missiles. Only a handful of tanks managed to retreat. The ambush was a success."

...this is also Strike or Die

Old Development Diary

In this page you can read my old development diary I wrote from the opening of the website to the end of the first "age" of the Strike or Die development, when the game was only a nice demo.

February Diary

23/02/01

Thanks to Paddy now Strike or Die release 3 is available on the powerful FTP site of NGI.
Go to the download page and check out the game.
I'm waiting for your feedback!

22/02/01

And finally here it is!
Strike or Die release 3 is ready for you to download.
I'm sorry for the long delay, but my work at Trecision really leaves me with so little of spare time.
Then if you want to challenge some other player by e-mail go to the "Play!" page.
Enjoy it!

January Diary

30/01/01

Time is never there when you need it!
In these days in my spare time I had the chance to play a test version of The Watchmaker, the new 3D adventure game from Trecision.
I think it's very challenging and original, so if you like the genre you can try out the 30Mb demo by yourselves.
You can download it from these links:
http://www.trecision.com/wm-demo.html
http://www.3dfiles.com/games/thewatchmaker.shtml
http://www.ngi.it/Download/FTP.asp?Nome=The_Watchmaker_Demo

Anyway the new release of Strike or Die is complete and I only need to update some sections of the website.

15/01/01

In this weekend I worked on the radar units. Now they have a special tab where you can turn on or turn off the radar system.
Also when an air unit is tracked by a radar, as it is indicated by a red R in the top right corner of the selection box, an icon appears on the map showing the provenience of the radar signal.
All that's left to do is improving the sound section and update the documentation.
The new release of Strike or Die is closing in!

10/01/01

I'm sorry for not having updated my website, but I had to move to Rapallo, near Geneva, with all the problems that it implies.
My job at Trecision leaves me a little of spare time to work on Strike or Die, but nonetheless I managed to improve it these days.
In particular I solved some bugs in various parts of the game reported by some nice guys.
Also in the end game menu you can now view the whole map without the Fog of War.
So the work did not stop and I'll release the new version as soon as I'll get the main theme song created by Stefano "REG" Zanca.

December Diary

28/12/00

I worked on the gameplay and I introduced some limitations to the aircrafts.
Now in the movement and targeting mode an A10 can't rotate by any angle, but within a certain value depending on its initial heading.
This applies only to attack aircrafts, is more realistic and most of all balances the game.
Also I worked on the credits section. People who helped me will be very pleased to see their names there.

27/12/00

Today I improved the functionality of the tutorial and message's transparent windows.
Now you can minimize and reposition them by dragging them around the screen.
Those windows seemed just too static.

26/12/00

Here I am, back at home, after an enthusiastic first week of work at Trecision.
I'll do what I can to keep my promise for an end of the year release of Strike or Die. Also I'm going to create a list of players to challenge by e-mail!
In the meantime I hope you'll enjoy these holidays.

17/12/00

Tomorrow I'll start working at Trecision, so there will not be updates until the next week.
I'd like to point out that I answer to ALL e-mail, so if you did not receive a reply it means the e-mail has not arrived or your e-mail address isn't working, as was the case with Sonia.
Sonia if you're reading this please give me a valid e-mail address.

15/12/00

I'm planning to release an updated version of Strike or Die by the end of the year, working on it during Christmas holidays.
It will include very good sound effects, some gameplay enhancements and hopefully a brand new map.
So stay tuned!

11/12/00

I knew it would have happened more or later, but I did not expected so soon.
I'm going to get a job at Trecision, the well-known italian software house. It's a dream that becomes a reality: working in a real game development team!
So these days I'm busy preparing to move. I'm not going to stop working on Strike or Die, because I hate leaving things uncompleted, but my new job will certainly slow down the development.

05/12/00

Yesterday has been a very important day for me. I'll talk about it later...
Returning to the development of Strike or Die I can say that setting up DirectSound was easier than expected, the hard part now is to associate the right sounds to the right game events. Furthermore I chose the highest quality audio format, that is 16bit, Stereo, 44100kHz.

02/12/00

Today I bought the December issue of The Games Machine, a well known italian videogames magazine and I was very happy to see Strike or Die in the Talent Scout section.
Thanks to Wergio, the webmaster of GPI, for the preview!

November Diary

30/11/00
Thanks to two expert wargamers, Marcello and Darksky, the webmaster of TOAW-ITA, who reported me some bugs. I will update the Limitations and Notes section to include them, but please remember the fixes will be available only in the next release.
As well as solving bugs I'm working on the sound routines these days. I decided to do it now because I finally found some nice heavy weapons sound effects and I must say it really makes a difference hearing those sounds in Strike or Die.

29/11/00
Thanks again to Nemo, who reported me a misspelt word in the english main menu. I wrote "Turorial" instead of "Tutorial". I promptly updated the Pak file and the relative screenshot.
More than a week has passed since the site opening and I'm very happy about the good comments on my hard work. They are mostly from people not too expert about wargaming, but I expected that since in Italy the wargamers community is so small.
Thank you again, your support is invaluable!

28/11/00
I'm struggling to solve a problem reported by my friend Nemo. On his PC with Win2K and GeeForce-DDR he sees the uncontrolled flipping of the two video surfaces, the primary and the backbuffer. It also appears that the BlitFast routine I use to update the backbuffer isn't working properly, while the game code executes correctly. I hope it's an isolated case...

27/11/00
It seems that the redirect from to my personal E-mail is not working 100% of the times, so I changed all E-mail links to . If you sent me an E-mail and you did not get response yet please send it to this address.

24/11/00
As well as promoting my website wherever possible, initially only in Italy, I worked on the key points control feature. Now you can see small flags placed on the key points of a map which your units must reach and take control of, as it happens in any respectable wargame.

20/11/00
The english version of the site is now complete. I know the translation is not prefect so if you find any mistakes in it please report them to me. From tomorrow I'll be back to work on the game code. I hope many people will come to visit my site and their comments will be positive.

15/11/00
Creating this site has took more time than expected, subtracting it from the development of the game, but I think it was a necessary step. Now I have to complete the english version and then I can turn back to my lines of code.

14/11/00
I just uploaded the release 2.1 of Strike or Die. Who saw the first version should know that it's obsolete now and there are many changes.
Download it!!!

13/11/00
Finally the site is online, even if only in the italian version.
I always thought that I would have created a homepage only if I have had something interesting to communicate and this is certainly the best way to let the world know of the work I'm doing developing Strike or Die.

The graphics aren't beautiful, but at least they're functional and above all mirror the style of the game graphics.

11/11/00
Testing...
