"The air defense locations were arranged with maximum care around the base, since a heavy enemy air attack was expected. The alarm was released without the early warning of the radar systems, but the air defense was ready and quite a lot of enemy aircrafts were shot down before they could drop their payload. The accurate preparation avoided the worst, the moral of the soldiers rose and that helped to dampen the strain while waiting for the next inevitable attack. "

...this is also Strike or Die

Links on the Web
Here you'll find the links to the websites I'm used to visit and that are about programming, online gaming portals or software houses who published games that will hardly leave my hard disk and even the websites of some fellow independent developers.

My favourites

Net Gamers Italia

Their motto is just as clear as it gets: do you want to play online? The right place is here!
I can't but agree since I played on NGI servers since SkyDM times...

Net Wargaming Italia
From the ashes of website TOAW-ITA was born Net Wargaming Italia, the first italian portal devoted to wargames, turn based strategy games and combat simulations. Good contents and a growing community make up for a great website with a bright future!

Tom's Hardware Guide

Doctor Thomas Pabst went a long way and now his website is one of the best for anyone searching for good articles and previews about the PC hardware. Thanks to him I learned the dangerous art of overclocking.

Hardware Upgrade

The italian Paolo Corsini tried to follow the steps of Doctor Tom and the result of so much passion has granted him excellent results. Simply the best italian website for PC hardware.

IBM Clan
How could I forget to mention the site of I Butteri Maremmani, the Quake 2/Quake 3 clan to which I once belonged? Special thanks to all the "butteracci" with whose I spent a lot of hours fragging online.

Game programming

Gamedev.net
The best site for all wannabe game programmers. It has many interesting articles both for beginners and experts. There's also a very useful forum.

Gamasutra
It talks about game programming in a more professional way than Gamedev.

GPI

The first italian website devoted to this wonderful art. Full of tutorials, articles and interviews for all tastes. Praise to the brave Wergio and to his many contributors.

ItaProGaming

The competition becomes hard for the guys at GPI. The site is more recent, but it's growing well under the direction of SiSkO and friends.

Software Houses

Battlefront

The small team at Battlefront really knows how to make it right and they have won their first battle against the "generic wargame" and publishers who look only at the profit producing a masterpiece of realism and playability that is Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord, a W.W.II tactical level military strategy game with 3D graphics.
On their website is also available the "Military Reference Library: Volume 1" by Major I. L. Holdridge, creator of TacOps, that came in handy for the design of Strike or Die.

MatrixGames

Even guys at MatrixGames don't joke at all. Their motto is "the glory in gaming is back".
Authors of the excellent Steel Panthers: World at War, completely free remake of the homonymous classic wargame by Gary Grisby, available to download directly from their site, they also publish a number of high quality strategy games.

ShrapnelGames

Well known publisher of war and strategy games, Shrapnel Games is the home of Armored Task Force, a wargame about modern tactical warfare developed by Captain Patrick Proctor, and Space Empires IV, among the other interesting games.

idsoftware

Rarely I visit their website but I wanted to include it in this list as a special thank to Carmack and partners for the hours spent playing online with their creations, in particular with Quake2.

Trecision

Trecision is the italian software house for which I've worked for a few months. Their latest published game is an original 3D graphic adventure, The Watchmaker, which I had the pleasure to play. But they've got other interesting game projects in development.

Fellow independent developers

Apezone
Andrew Ewanchyna is a very friendly canadian, "just a guy who likes writing computer games", as he says.
He earned its reputation thanks to Starships Unlimited, a great space strategy game, initially sold as shareware and then published by MatrixGames in retail version.

Fury Software
Hubert Cater is the one man behind that great light wargame by the name of Strategic Command, published with great success by Battlefront in 2002. I reviewed the game for NWI.
He's canadian, too.
